Idaho Legislative District 3, House Seat B
Phil Hart
David Rawls

There is a clear difference between candidates Phil Hart and David Rawls. While both claim to be conservative, Mr. Rawls only calls himself a "fiscal conservative", implying that he is liberal in other areas. This proves to be true. See below for Mr. Rawls own words from a recent interview with an under-cover RinoHunter.

In sharp contrast, Phil Hart is one of the few legislative candidates to whom we could apply the term "Constitutional Conservative". He knows and follows the Constitution, and has a voting record of true conservatism.

On the issues,
a side-by-side comparison

Phil Hart
David Rawls
1. Where do you stand on abortion?
"I believe the unborn child was created by God and has rights that are protected by the United States Constitution."
"I can't tell a woman what to do with her body, it's a woman's choice."
2. Where do you stand on Gay Marriage?
"I supported the 2006 marriage amendment that the legislature sent out to the people to vote on in the 2006 general election. The marriage amendment was approved by the voters and declared that in the state of Idaho a marriage would be limited to a union between a man and a woman." "more or less I would be open to civil unions.
I think it is important to help the gays with their problems."
3. Where do you stand on illegal immigration?

"I believe that illegal immigration is illegal. I also believe that is it the federal government’s responsibility to deal with the issue. However, the reality is that the federal government is not dealing with illegal immigration, and that the states now find themselves in a position where they are forced to do something."

"In 2008 I authored Senate Bill 1513 that would crack-down on employers who hire illegal aliens. My bill was patterned after the successful Arizona bill, which is causing the illegals to leave Arizona in droves. I will continue to work on this legislation until we get it passed.

"I think its not appropriate to call them illegal, but it's hard to determine who is legal and who is illegal .. we need a better identification system."

Rawls also seems to favor amnesty.

4. What is the purpose of Government?
"The proper role of government can be summed up with a quote from Romans 13:3 which states, “For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong.” In other words, government is to encourage and support those who do right, and punish those who do wrong. The purpose of government can be summed up in one word, “justice.”" "It has it's appropriate place helping us live in a civil society, and it's role is to make sure that we get along ... it is a civic obligation to pay taxes."
5. What sets you apart from your opponent?
"I am a conservative Republican with a conservative Republican voting record. My opponent has spent his career in an environment, that of the public school system, which is normally where one would find a political liberal. He has no voting record to substantiate his claim that he is a conservative Republican." "Our voting records. I would have voted differently on a lot of issues."
6. Who do you like/support in the upcoming Presidential election?
"In the primary I support Dr. Ron Paul." "Well, I'm very disappointed in the Republican Party with John McCain, but Obama seems very energetic and nice and appealing, so does Clinton. I'll probably end up voting for McCain but they seem just as nice."

David Rawls' liberal connections abound, including:

- Records show he has only donated to Democrat election campaigns (link 1, 2),
- Wendy Jaquet, (Democrat, House Minority Leader) claims she recruited David Rawls to run against Phil Hart! (To be sought after by the most prominent Democrat in the Idaho House speaks volumes!)

Although both candidates claim to be Republicans, David Rawls departs from conservative ideals in many ways. He is just the type of Republican that Democrats want. We consider Mr. Rawls to be a true RINO.
